Golden hour kayak on the Hudson River

Join me, an expert adventure guide and Catskills native, for a sunset kayak paddle along the historic Hudson River, looping around the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse as the sky turns pink. Beginners and experienced kayakers are all welcome. • Meet at the kayak launch in Athens, where you’ll get fitted for your gear. I’ll share an overview of our route and run through safety guidelines and paddling techniques. • Off you go! Paddle toward the lighthouse, exploring hidden inlets and spotting wildlife as you go. Along the way, I’ll discuss the history of the lighthouse and this region. • Tide permitting, pause at the Middle Ground Flats, a small forested island, to stretch your legs and take some photos. • As the sun sets, paddle to a scenic spot for quiet reflection and more photos, before heading back to our starting point as dusk settles in. You’ll leave having enjoyed a serene Catskills sunset—and an unforgettable experience on the water.

Here, you’ll receive snowshoes or climbing spikes as needed, and get a quick rundown of the trail route and what to expect. • Begin the climb through towering woodland, followed by the Lower Falls Viewing Area for a mesmerizing, ground-level look at the cascading water. • Next, tackle a steeper incline as the landscape transforms into rugged rock formations. Natural ledges offer sweeping vistas of the Catskill Mountains along this stretch, and spots to rest and hydrate. • When you reach the Upper Falls Lookout, the full splendor of Kaaterskill Falls unfolds. But your ascent doesn’t end there. Continue to the very top and enjoy a moment of tranquility while soaking in panoramic views. As you descend and step away from the trail, the roar of the falls and the crisp mountain air will linger, calling you back for your next adventure.

Enjoy your hike without worrying about picking the right route and navigating it. I'll find the perfect hike for you/your group, and I'll take you on it! Mt Greylock State Reservation is home to some of the best, wildest hiking in New England. It's not just the towering summit (highest in MA) with its epic views, the park has nearly 100 miles of hiking trails nestled within 12,500 acres of pristine green forests, much of it very lightly trafficked. Most folks barely scratch the surface! Honestly it can be hard to know the best spots and how to get to them. You got waterfalls, stunning vistas, rocky ledges, incredible wildlife... and MILE AFTER MILE of WOODED TRAILS meandering through SHADY FORESTS of rich GREEN. It's all about that forest-bathing time--you'll just FEEL BETTER after a hike (mind and body)! DURATION AND DIFFICULTY: hikes range from easy, flattish 1.5 to 2 hour jaunts to strenuous summit climbs of 4 hours. I can pick or you can choose from a set of ready-made options, or we can chat by text or phone to decide.
