Easy access, family-friendly hiking you can access outside of the national park.
Don't feel like waiting in line to enter the park? This newly created hiking are has a couple amazing hikes for a quick trip. Highly recommended for a relaxing hike without the need for $30 park entry fees.
Also know as Section 6, this Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land is managed by the County of San Bernardino as the Desert View Conservation Area (easily found on google maps.) It is a great spot close to town for a hike when you don’t want to go all the way into the National Park. Additionally dogs and mountain bikes are allowed on the trails, unlike trails inside the National Park. You’ll see boulders, Joshua Trees and native wildlife. The views at sunset are stunning and it is usually uncrowded. There is no fee for entry. Keep in mind the gates are locked from sunset to sunrise.
