Great hospitality starts with setting clear expectations about your property. You can help guests find your listing by identifying what kind of place you’re hosting.
In this step, you want to select the property type, such as a house or flat, that best describes your space in general. We’ll ask you to get more specific in the next step.
Here’s how Airbnb defines each general property type:
- Flat/Apartment: Typically located in a multi-unit building where other people live, including apartments and lofts
- House: Standalone structure that may share outdoor areas or walls, such as townhouses and duplexes
- Secondary unit: Usually on a shared property with a private entrance, including guest houses and guest suites
- Unique space: Interesting or unconventional structure, such as a treehouse, yurt or farm stay
- Bed and breakfast: A hospitality business offering guests breakfast with a Host on-site
- Boutique hotel: A hospitality business with a unique style or theme defining its identity
If your space fits more than one property type, pick the one you think is most accurate.
For example, let’s say you’re listing a cosy little studio in your garden. You could select either Secondary unit (Guest house) or Unique space (Tiny home), based on which type of space you think it most closely resembles.
There’s no wrong answer here, as long as you’re giving guests a true sense of what to expect if they book your place. We’ll ask you to add another layer of detail in the next step, and you can update your choices after you publish your listing.
